Where is Onverwacht Guest Accommodation?
We are at 4 Morris Street, Hillsboro, Bloemfontein, 9301, Free State, South Africa, in a quiet residential area.

Is Onverwacht a good stopover between the Western Cape and Gauteng?
Yes. Many of our guests break their journey with us on trips between Cape Town, George and Pretoria/Johannesburg. The driving distance between Bloemfontein and Cape Town is approximately 1,001 km along the N1 highway., so you can arrive, rest, cook or relax, and continue refreshed the next day. From Bloemfontein to Pretoria it is about 450 km.

How far are you from the airport, the city centre and major attractions?
Bloemfontein Airport – 18 minutes (13,3 km); Loch Logan Waterfront – 11 minutes; University of the Free State – 13/14 minutes; National Museum – 11/12 minutes; Mediclinic hospital – 7/8 minutes; Oranje Sekondêre Meisieskool – 7/9 minutes; Sentraal Hoërskool – 7/8 minutes, Eunice Girls High – 12 minutes; Grey College – 11 minutes and Saint Andrew’s School – 8 minutes (4,4, km).

The nearest on-ramp to the N1 is 4 – 6 minutes away – an easy road.

The closest access point to the N1 highway is via the Kenneth Kaunda Road / Eeufees Road interchange (located right next to Northridge Mall and the Engen Bloemfontein North 1 Stop). The route is a direct and efficient drive down Kenneth Kaunda Road

Yes. Once you book, we will send you directions and our pin location. Our host is also happy to guide you by phone if you need it.

Rooms and facilities

What accommodation do you offer?
We have fully equipped self-catering units:

Garden Suite: sleeps 2, with a queen-size bed, kitchenette, workstation, en-suite bathroom with shower, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime, and a hairdryer.
Garden Flatlet: sleeps 2 adults and 2 children, with a king-size bed that can be converted into two single beds, an en-suite bathroom with shower, a fully equipped kitchen (fridge-freezer, stove, toaster, cutlery and crockery), a lounge with a sleeper couch (which can be converted into a double bed), and an open-plan dining area that doubles as a workspace.

Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, free Wi-Fi is available. (Fibre and uncapped.)

Can I cook for myself?
Yes. Our units are self-catering, so you can prepare your own meals. The Garden Flatlet has a fully equipped kitchen. The Garden Suite has a kitchenette with cutlery and crockery, a kettle and microwave, etc.

Do the rooms have air-conditioning?
Yes. The air-conditioning can be set to heat in winter.

Do you have a workspace for business travellers?
Yes. Our units have a workstation or dining area (Garden Flat) with plenty of plug points, suitable for working during your stay.

Do you provide linen and towels?
Quality linen and towels are provided.

Do you offer breakfast?
We don’t serve breakfast, but there are cafés and restaurants nearby, and you can cook in your unit.

Is there laundry service?
A laundromat is nearby, and we offer a laundry service to long-term guests.

Safety and parking

Is parking available and secure?
Yes. We offer secure parking in a quiet, fenced-off area.

Is the property safe?
Onverwacht is a secure, enclosed property. A beam with an alarm is installed at the guesthouse entrance.

Do you have backup power for load-shedding?
Yes, we have backup power so Wi-Fi, lights and fridges keep working during outages.

Booking and payment

How do I book?
Book through our website, call or WhatsApp +27 81 683 1670, or email onverwacht.gh@gmail.com. We are also listed on Airbnb, Google, and LekkeSlaap. Booking directly with us gives you the best available rate and a complimentary late check-out, if other guests are not expected.

What are your rates?
Rates depend on the unit and the season. Our Garden Suite starts from around R899 per night for two guests. Please contact us for current rates and specials.

What payment methods do you accept?
EFT, or cash on arrival (if pre-arranged).

Do I need to pay a deposit?
Bookings made well in advance require a 50% deposit.

What is your cancellation policy?
Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before your stay.

Do you offer discounts for longer stays?
Yes, we offer weekly and monthly rates for long stays. Contact us for a quote.

Check-in and check-out

What are your check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is between 14:00 and 18:00, and check-out is by 10:00.

What if I arrive after 18:00?
Let us know your expected arrival time when you book, and we will do our best to arrange a late check-in.

Can I check in early or check out late?
We will try to accommodate this when possible, depending on availability. Please ask when booking.

Guests, children and pets

Are children welcome?
Yes, all ages are welcome. The Garden Flatlet is especially suited to families, as it sleeps 2 adults and 2 children on the double bed (sleeper couch).

Do you have cots or extra beds?
No cots, but an extra single bed can be arranged at a predetermined price.

Are pets allowed?
Sorry, we can’t accommodate pets.

Is smoking allowed?
Smoking is not permitted inside the units, but you may smoke in the outdoor areas.

Can I host visitors or events?
Only if pre-arranged. Please take note of our house rules (which will be sent to you in advance). The area has a no noise rule between 10 pm and 7 am.

Who will I deal with?

Who will welcome me?
